i made this pillow this weekend for a family friend who just started her freshman year of college and moved into her dorm. i also made a valance for her dorm window, i'll share pictures once its installed. didn't the pillow turn out pretty cute?! it took quite a while bc it was my first time sewing on trim and making an envelope back...but it all came together!
to make the button monogram i bought a bag of white buttons at Michael's. (I also bought a bag of 1,000 vintage mother of pearl like buttons on ebay for future projects) i printed out a letter "S" from word and then cut it out and traced it with a pencil onto the blue fabric. obviously, do all this before you put the pillow together. lay the buttons out on the cut out letter to get the placement right. i figured out that the best way to get the buttons on the fabric is to glue them on with elmer's washable glue then let the glue get tacky (not dry, bc its too hard to get the needle through it) and then sew them on. next, pop the fabric in the washer on gentle. this removes any pencil line that may be showing and also the glue. dry on low and iron. it takes a while but turns out cute!
This turned out adorable!

ReplyDeleteSo...I was making pillow envelopes & got to the monogram part & remembered that you had said to use a pencil. Once I sketched on to the fabric & realized I didn't like what I'd drawn, I put it in the wash... BUT the pencial didn't come out. Did you use detergent?
ReplyDeleteI am IN LOVE with this pillow. You did a fab job!
