Our book club read this for our November book and I'm so pleased that Lauren chose it! At first I was a bit apprehensive, I mean we already read a book set at the circus early this year (Water for Elephants)...but I was in for a real treat! This book is magical! Haha, well it is about magic! I highly recommend this book!
Here is what Amazon had to say:
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart."
You're the 2nd person in the past week that has recommended this book. I'm definitely adding it to my list!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read this, but have read mixed reviews! I wish my library would offer it!!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you reviewed this. Morgenstern wrote the first draft of this book during National Novel Writing Month (which is happening right now and I am participating in). I have been considering reading it for inspiration. :)

ReplyDeleteAdding this to my book list!
ReplyDeleteOhmygoodness I LOVE this book!! My Mom went on a business trip to San Francisco and stopped by a local bookstore to pick me up a souvenir (I'm a HUGE reader). The girl at the bookstore recommended this book to my Mom and they had one copy left that just happened to be an autographed copy. The next morning my Mom was reading USA Today and they reviewed the Night Circus - weird coincidence (USA Today gave it 3.5/4 stars btw)!! I'm not really into "fantasy" or "supernatural" types of books but I couldn't put it down! I read somewhere that she is currently working on her next novel and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. Happy Reading :)

I saw this last time I was in a bookstore, and like you, I was a bit apprehensive toward purchasing it so I passed it up. But after this review, I just might have to go back and pick up a copy.
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome to hear this is a good book because we're reading it for my January book club and after the Amazon review, I was a little iffy if it was a good choice or not!
