WWW - Seeking: florist

Ladies! Who has used a florist here in Lexington (or nearby) that they loved?! I need some recommendations! I like a very garden-y, soft, loose feel to floral arrangements. Also, what did you all budget for flowers for your wedding? I really have no clue on what to expect. Obviously, I won't be going crazy, as that certainly isn't in the budget! Should I dare try to do the table arrangements myself (like the Thursday before)?! Is that too much of a commitment? I would def have the bouquets and such done professionally.

Any recommendations, advice or input is highly appreciated!!

  1. House on Walton Avenue sounds like it would be the perfect fit for you! They do weddings of all sizes and price ranges. What you spend greatly depends on whether you pick flowers that are in season or not.

I'm a DIY'er too but I would definitely say to have someone else do as much for you as possible. You don't want to be so stressed in the days before that you can't even enjoy yourself! This is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, make the most of it so you can enjoy every minute!

  2. I cut corners with a lot of my floral plans to save money. I don't mind sharing my total spent -- for everything (flowergirl petals, grandmother corsage, ceremony decor, reception decor, bouquet, cake topper, 8 bridesmaids bouquets, shipping/taxes), I spent $2500. I made the boutonierres, and our mothers did not want to wear flowers. If you would like more of a bit-by-bit breakdown, just contact me. :) I'm an open book with wedding budgets because I know how confusing it can be!

  4. I plan to use Ruth @ CarolLynn Originals (on corner of Main St. and Walton). She was SO nice when my mom and I met with her! Very creative and had lots of original ideas. Her quote was about $3,000 for everything (I'll have about 20 table center pieces, some of which will be large), which I thought seemed pretty reasonable for what all we're getting. Good luck! :)

  5. Okay, this will come out of left field, but you really should look at a Kroger florist. We used Kroger for mine and my sisters wedding and the bouquets and arrangements were stunning. For my sister's wedding she did bouquets and floral arrangements on the entry, catering and cake table. For mine, Kroger did all the bouquets and bouteniers for the men. We purchased loose flowers through Costco for my tables because I wanted small arrangements that had a "handmade" look to them. I will post pictures on fb soon so you can see if that is a look you are going for. We saved an absolute fortune and when I came back from my honeymoon, by bouquet was still pristine! They charged soooo much less per stem, and they don't charge you to actually "arrange" the flowers like most florists do. I went to a wedding in Lexington in June and her flowers were gorgeous...Kroger had done hers too. I would recommend on of the Kroger Marketplace stores. I am sure they would have a book you can look through too. Hope that helps!

  6. Although I haven't booked my florist yet (wedding isn't until March), I've received two quotes which were between $2500-$3000 - but I'm in Charleston so I don't know what the prices are like vs. those in Lexington. Sounds like we're going for the same feel for our flowers.

  7. I had someone arrange the flowers that worked at one of the plantation stores in Charleston as their florist, but she technically wasn't a florist- if that makes sense! She ordered the flowers through her work and then arranged the flowers for us- I did nothing! It was $1,200 (cash!) and we had 18 large tables. The flowers were amazing and I was so happy to have spent so little on it! I think just thinking outside of the box- a few quotes for florists I found were 2,500-3,500 and we were able to get so much more for much less! Think outside the box! It might save you some cash!

  8. Go see the guys at House. Stewart is doing my wedding in November and he is fabulous!! They all are. It's one of the best decisions I made. They are super affordable and work great within a budget. Plus- you can rent anything in their store.
