I need your product recommendations

Happy Monday, ladies! I need your help today. I went and got 3" of hair chopped off because it was just so broken and split...it was gross. I had been trying to grow it out, but thought maybe the best plan of action was to cut it and start over. I have 10 months until the wedding to grow it out a few inches. I want to make sure that it grows out healthy this time around, and want to prevent breakage and split ends. So this is where you all come in...what products do you swear by for strengthening hair and helping it grow? I have lots of very fine hair. I try to only blow dry it every other day, but that is usually difficult because it tends to look oily within like 12 hours of washing it (sucks).

Do you use a hair mask? Deep conditioner? What should I purchase? Help me!!!

  1. After an evening workout, I come home - shower - skip the shampoo (I shampoo in the mornings) but do put in conditioner - then I towel-dry my hair, coat it in Moroccan Oil, and braid it to sleep! I feel like doing this has helped the health of my hair.

Also, CVS makes a great hair+skin+nails vitamin!

  2. I have a lot of fine hair, like you. Once a week, usually on Sunday, I do use a clarifying shampoo to get all of the product build-up out - Bumble&Bumble's "Sunday" shampoo is my favorite. Then I use Aveda's Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment (a 3 minute mask). Rinse, and I either do a light blow dry or not at all.

Also - be careful of using TOO many leave-in conditioners or things with protein. An abundance of protein on your hair can make it brittle.

About a week before your wedding - have your stylist do a clear gloss on your hair. It's a K. Middleton secret, and I did it before my wedding too. It will make your hair look healthy and shiny without weighing it down, especially on wedding day when you have a whole lotta hairspray!

  4. My hair is fine as well. I've been trying to grow it since LAST August... and since January I've been trying to only wash/shampoo it 3x a week maximum.

I've found that if I blow dry my hair upside down it takes like 30 seconds to try, as opposed to sectioning it off and round brushing each piece. Now instead - as I mentioned I blow dry upside down then finish off blow drying my ends with a boar bristle brush and make it "smooth looking" that way.

Get some powdered dry shampoo - have you used any? It's soo so annoying because my second day hair is really greasy and so hard to make it look nice (especially at the crown). But the 3rd and (omg i know) 4th day is very voluminous ... probably because of all the build up.

I now get my hair cut every 14wks instead of the usual 6-8 (to maintain the length) or 8-10 (to grow it a smidge)

Though, to be honest I have no idea what works to make hair grow. Because my hair is basically the same length as it was back in Aug 2011 when my stylist cut it all off :( lol

  5. I have been using the garnier fructis blow drying and straightening perfector. It has really helped my hair. Also treseme has a split ends serum that works well and they are all under $6.

  6. I used to have the exact same problem as you with my hair getting oily. Then I went to a new stylist and she told me it was because I was allergic to sulfates! Switched to all sulfate free hair products and even face wash and I've seen a huge improvement in the condition of my hair, how much I have to wash it and even my skin. I would definitely recommend giving it a try! And also Moroccan Oil, which is the best hair product of all time and works wonders on oily hair that still gets dry on the ends.

  8. I try to avoid heat! I also swear by Super Silica..http://www.amazon.com/Super-Silica-Plus-60-Tabs/dp/B000NZDN7E. Pretty cheap compared to phyto and I think it has worked better too.

Also, not sure the how true this is, but my stylist noticed my hair started growing much quicker and healthier since I started exercising regularly (spin 5-7X/week) and eating cleaner!

  10. I have pretty fine hair and within a week of starting to take a multivitamin, I started to notice my hair was shinier and it grew so much faster. My fingernails also grow so so fast--which will be nice for the wedding too! :)

I also use a Perfect 10 on my hair. I like the spray before I blow dry my hair, but I don't know if it helps it grow--maybe it just keeps it healthier?

  11. i've noticed that using Aveeno's Nourish & Moisturize Shampoo really helps my hair become soft and shiny. I also use moroccan oil occasionally if my hair feels brittle or dry. most importantly, it's best to avoid things like blow-dryers and straighteners as much as you can--my mom is a hairdresser and she suggests using low heat with a dryer, going to bed with a damp head, and then straightening in the morning using a straightener with adjustable heat. good luck!!

  12. I have never been one to skip showers...in fact I was know to shower several times a day. My hair is blonde, thin, and fine. You can imagine the mess my hair looked but I have started using Oribe Dry Texturizing spray and its awesome. I can go about 2 to 3 days without washing my hair and it gives it volume. I do blowdry it in with a round brush. I swear, its been life changing!! ha!

  13. I've heard the best ways to keep your hair from breaking are to use only salon shampoo/conditioner and something with keratin. I love Biolage's Conditioning Balm, and Bumble & Bumble hair masques. I also take phyto pills and try to limit hair washing/heat styling. :)
